Brief Commentary on: World War Z by Max Brooks, Published by Crown in 2006. ISBN0-307-34660-9
I made my way through this work at the recommendation of my best friend, who is a big fan. Not being much of a consumer of fiction outside of the occasional volume of science fiction, I was hesitant to give it a try, especially since it was a zombie book. After finishing and reading around to see what others had to say about the book, I did find one review that summed up exactly my sense of the book; the only thing wrong with this book was that it was a zombie book. It is very well thought out and researched, yes, very will researched. Most of the characters are well written, and overall is a fun read. In a lot of ways, it seems like a re-write of The Stand (by Stephen King, Doubleday, 1978, ISBN 978-0-385-12168-2) which is the only other “post apocalyptic” book I’ve ever read (but that was in high school).
Final appraisal: Skip, unless you like zombie books… then definitely read.
